The fourth edition of the Global Mentoring Walk organised by the Polish Professional Women in the Netherlands took place in Amsterdam, on International Women’s Day, Sunday 8th March.

The participants – mentors and mentees – met at De Veranda restaurant, located near one of picturesque canals of the Amsterdamse Bos. The main idea behind the Global Mentoring Walk was intergenerational dialogue, sharing professional experience and helping women of all ages to find or change their career path.

Punctually at midday the registration list was opened. The first mentors and their mentees began to arrive at the restaurant. The event gathered over 70 participants. Before the official part of the meeting began, the members of the Association and invited guests had the opportunity to expand their contact group through active networking.

A quarter before 13:00 the official part of the Global Mentoring Walk 2020 programme began. Event participants were warmly greeted by the team members directly involved in the organisation of the project: Dorota Konarska and Izabela Makoś and also by the Chairwoman Monika Krzepczak.

Thereafter, the participants had an opportunity to listen to an exciting lecture given by Dr. Magdalena Sedek about the gender inequalities in the labor market. The conclusion of the lecture was that, despite high professional activity of women, access to better education and broad range of career opportunities in different areas, there is still a clear and visible disparity between the salaries and access to senior management positions between the genders. Dr. Magdalena Sedek also gave tips on how man and woman could work to improve that situation.

Another special guest of the Global Mentoring Walk 2020 was Mérida Miller, the founder of the non-profit organisation called Project Fearless. Mérida shared the reasons why she decided to leave her corporate job, move from the USA to Europe and start her own non-profit focused on helping girls, in the age 9-14, to build their confidence. Would you like to learn more about Mérida and her extraordinary organization? Read the interview here.

After listening to exciting and inspiring presentations of our speakers, the participants could not resist to take the group picture!

Charged with positive energy, we were ready for the mentoring walk in Amsterdamse Bos. Experienced leaders listened attentively to their mentees to give them a valuable advice and to support them in their decisions. After the walk and fruitful brainstorming, the participants returned to De Veranda restaurant for some refreshments. During the after-walk networking, all mentors and mentees enthusiastically exchanged experiences and shared their opinions about the Global Mentoring Walk.

We would like to thank the speakers, mentors and mentees for participating in our event. Without you, the 4th edition of the Global Mentoring Walk in Amsterdam would not have been possible.
