On the 15th October 2017, together with ToP Association of Polish Women in the Netherlands (Vereniging van Poolse Vrouwen in Nederland), Polish Professional Women hosted an event about Understanding the Dynamics of Workaholism and its consequences.

The workshop with Maia Wouters took place in beautiful Schuilkerk De Hoop in Diemen. As usual we opened the meeting with Club Business where we shared with participants the upcoming events. Then Magdalena Sedek shared with us her personal story, the struggles of burnout and how she overcome it. An inspiring and moving story of Magdalena was very special to all of us. She showed us that it is ok and we should not be afraid to admit that we are in this situation. After Magdalena’s story, Maia Wouters explained to the participants what is burnout. She explained that to grow we should feel uncomfortable and we should see the stress as the time of growth. However, we should you keep an eye on the stress pattern and separate the bad and good stress. Maia spoke about balance and how the hormones play part in the stress situations. She explained to us the effects of cortisol and adrenaline and the distribution of energy that shows the level of stress. Too much stress and being out of balance leads to troubles sleeping, muscles pain and many more. We live in a society where we are not allowed to showed emotions. To be able to control the influence of stress, we need to be able to show are emotions and be able to talk openly about how we feel. We should remember that it is ok to show them. Last but not least, Maia explained the causes of burnout, how to approach it and seek for help at work. She shared with us the steps of the legal path while on burnout.” We should remember that often our copying mechanism is not aware of danger and leads to burnout. It is important to acknowledge it and learn how do deal with it. “It’s better to prevent than heal” We would like to thank everyone who has joined us. We hope to see you on our next event.
